Futura Free is an Ottawa and Kingston-based indie rock and shoegaze-inspired music project led by songwriter and producer Peter Luft. Active in the Ontario underground scene since the early 2020s, the project is known for its self-produced approach and a sound that blends psychedelic emo, dream pop, and 90s shoegaze with touches of synth-wave and alternative rock. Futura Free’s music often features layered guitars, atmospheric textures, and emotionally driven lyrics that lean into nostalgia and youthful introspection. The project’s releases include Reducer (2021) and This Reality (2023), both of which highlight its DIY production style and experimental edge. Rather than functioning as a traditional touring band, Futura Free operates as a flexible studio-focused project, though it has performed live at venues across Ontario, including House of TARG in Ottawa and various Kingston music events. With a growing online presence through Bandcamp and streaming platforms, Futura Free continues to evolve within Canada’s independent indie and emo-rock landscape.
